OCE Discovery 2010 Video Presentation Contest Matt Simone McMaster University RECREATIONAL DRUG USE AND ABUSE Recreational drugs are a very real concern in the lives of adolescents and adults alike. The choices one makes regarding what substances to use recreationally is especially important due to the general lack of factual, straight forward information available about drugs to the general public; despite their maintained popularity. The purpose for this project is simple. I want to change the way that adolescents and adults are educated about drugs and their health. Drug use and abuse is a very real concern in our culture today with some of the most damaging effects as a result of misinformation and myths. My goal is to provide free, informational videos about the health concerns and pharmacology of illicit drugs so that individuals can better prepare themselves for decisions related to recreational drug use and abuse. Most importantly, I will debunk the various myths associated with drug use so that as informed individuals there can be a general consensus of truth about the various psychoactive substances used in our current society. The truth is that a variety of common everyday drugs are in fact, more dangerous and potentially deadly then the majority of illicit recreational drugs available. Depending on demand, possible future informational videos will include: Amphetamine (Bennies) Caffeine (Coffee, Tea) Cocaine (Coke, Crack) DMT (Businessman’s Special) Ethanol
