NorthStar Community Announces New Name

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) September 12, 2005

NorthStar Community, a Christ-centered recovery ministry in Richmond, Virginia is pleased to announce the adoption of their new name today. After six years of using the Celebrate Recovery name (a ministry of Saddleback church in California) NorthStar Community has developed outreach, support and apprenticeship programs that allow the ministry to broaden their approach to the recovery community.

The NorthStar Community name is based on the belief that Christ is the central point of focus and is an ever-present, constant light in the recovery process, like the North Star in the skies above.

NorthStar Community is led by Teresa McBean: “I love our new name. I think it reflects who we are as a community – hurting people who are finding our way back to God. We believe that we were created for a grand adventure but our hurts, habits and hang-ups have caused us to lose our way. We come together and share our experience, strength and hope. We look for solutions, believing that through God we can celebrate our recovery, rebuild our relationships and experience spiritual renewal. We believe that it is in Him that we find meaning and a purpose for living. At NorthStar, we are on a grand epic adventure to become our God-created selves. I hope you’ll join us on this awesome journey!”

The NorthStar Community theme – Celebrating Recovery, Relationships and Renewal – is derived from the steps in the recovery process that allow people to find freedom from entrenched strongholds, addictions and unhealthy lifestyles. The process, according to Teresa McBean, “typically begins with the realization and acceptance that not changing unhealthy behaviors may ultimately be more harmful than the pain of change. This is the point where a person’s perception of themselves and the people they have affected begins to build emerging pathways to better self esteem, emotional and spiritual healing. That’s the beginning of the Relationship and Renewal part of the process”

A ministry of Bon Air Baptist Church in Richmond, NorthStar Community has cultivated a comprehensive array of materials, audio and video tapes, DVDs and a content-rich website to lend support to families and individuals in need of encouragement and discipleship in a Christ-centered environment. NorthStar Community broadcasts weekly at 11:30AM on CBS-TV 6, Richmond to a regional audience. The Sunday gathering is held at Bon Air Elementary School, 8701 Polk Street, Richmond at 10:30AM. Numerous support groups and outreach efforts are conducted during the week.
