New York, NY (PRWEB) December 23, 2010
According to a phone survey of officers and police chiefs at 29 individual police departments across the United States, 20 percent of those surveyed have seen an increase in the number of DUI arrests this year as well as over this holiday season. Those surveyed are split as to which weekend is the worst DUI weekend — half said Thanksgiving weekend, the other New Year’s eve. The survey was conducted December 15-22 by The Number 12 Foundation.
Full results are below:
Question: Has your department had more/less/or the same number of DUI arrests in 2010 compared to 2009?
More 20%
Less 19.9%
Same as 2009 62.1%
Alcohol related crashes are up almost 50% this year in one Midwest town though most stated that the majority of DUI arrests, were not crash related.
According to recovering alcoholic, Jeff Christian, founder of The Number 12 Foundation, “Some police departments who reported an increase saw the reason being that they have additional manpower and funding to increase the number of checkpoints and specifically assigned task forces.”
