Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada It was an historic day in Narconon history when a lost drug education lecture delivered by the founder of Narconon William Benitez was discovered. This was the first ever Narconon drug free message sent out to the youth of America.

Scottsdale High School in the state of Arizona was the first high school to receive a Narconon drug education lecture. The year was 1968, and the founder of the Narconon program William Benitez was enjoying life to the fullest, being crime and drug free for over two years. Once a former drug addict of 19 years, he was incarcerated in the Arizona State Prison in 1966, and that is where he developed the first Narconon therapy group, as he called it. When he was released from prison he started the second Narconon therapy group, and over an 18-month period, between 1966 and 1968, the Narconon program produced twelve graduates, who were still crime and drug free the day Will gave the lecture to all those high school kids.

It was a historic moment for Narconon when this recorded lecture was discovered, all the years of drug prevention, and in the beginning it was instinctive for the founder of Narconon to start getting the message out. Will talked to the kids at that high school about how drugs are advertised and marketed towards young people. He talked about his own experiences as a drug addict of 19 years, and actually gave the audience real life examples. This was the start of the most effective drug education lectures that were ever developed. What makes these lectures so effective is avoiding scare tactics, and not talking down to the kids being lectured. Will was able to educate these kids, and give them stories and factual information that they could relate to.

Will talked about the Narconon program and how effective it has been so far for drug users of all kinds. He showed how the Narconon program can make a person more able, and gives that individual more abilities. The addict is the only person who can resolve their problem, because they were the one who created the problem to begin with. From Will’s own experience he was able to paint a picture for the audience that the quickest way to hurt someone was to introduce them to narcotics. He related this message to the very first time he was introduced to marijuana at the age of 13, and where his life followed after that. All this was coming from an individual who beat his own addiction; overcame the obstacles, and is now passing his knowledge and experience on to others.

The Narconon drug prevention lectures to this day have educated millions of people worldwide. The overall purpose is to deliver an effective message, the truth about drugs, and help save millions of people from entering into a drug or alcohol addiction. This lecture delivered by the founder of Narconon was in fact, the starting point for what has been created today.
