My mother went into a 72 hour detox program…?
Question by LJ: My mother went into a 72 hour detox program…?
Ok long story short, my mother drinks all day every day and when she can’t get it she takes pain killers. We took her into the ER 3 weeks ago and her blood alcohol was .36 which the doc said she could have died. They also found zanax in her system. We asked to have her put on a medical hold until we could get her into rehab. They refused saying that they felt she was medically fine after just 10 hours. However, her discharge paper work said her diagnosis was “intentional self-induced drug/alcohol over dose”. She was refusing help but after she showed up to my brothers highschool graduation wasted on jose cuervo and vidadin my dad pretty muched forced her to check into the local detox program. The nurse told us she would be put on a 72 hour hold. They would give her meds to help with the detox etc. Sooooo, today after she was in there for 24 hours they let her leave. And now the nurses won’t give us any info because they said it’s against privacy laws. What if anything can we do?
She had gastric bypass surgery a little over a year ago so if you know anything about that alcohol can be a very deadly habit. There’s 12 kids in my family, 7 of which still live with her. She’s screwing up each child one by one. She’s dr hopping to get more pain meds. No one will help us, not her dr’s, surgeons, or the local addiction clinic. What can we do? She’s killing herself!

Try the Prosecuting Attorneys office and get her committed to a mental hospital, she will not stop this on her own, she can’t, but all you kids should not have to suffer. Dept of Human Services, DHS, in your area may be able to help. It should be up to your dad, but one of you kids can call and I guarantee you, there will be help when the kids start asking.
