my brother needs help from his addictions.?
Question by tina p: my brother needs help from his addictions.?
My brother has had many addictions in his life, cigs, alcohol, pain killers, cocaine.. you name hes had a problem with it. He is now clean and sober, or so we believe. He now doesn’t leave the house.. EVER. He is 25, he goes to work (with my neighbor) doing construction and comes home and doesnt leave his room. My entire family doesn’t know what to do.. He refuses to seek treatment. Many psychiatrists have told me and my mother to kick him out.. his response is “I will literally sit on the front steps and die” And we’re nervous, hes in fact, right.. We’re very confused and don’t know what to do. It’s very hard not to enable him and get his cigs and all the things he wants, b/c well he’s my brother and he has a problem and when we say “Sorry we have to stop enabling you, stop getting everything for you” it causes world war 3 in our house. WE NEED HELP..
Well, he is completely convinced his problem is social anxiety.. where as us around him see it as the reprocussions of his addictions.. hard to tell honestly. I will never be “willing to let him die on the steps” as someone said, bottom line he is my brother, I know that the enabling doesn’t help but it is SO hard not to, just to cause less stress for him and for us. If he were kicked out.. he would literally sit there and we all know that, he doesnt own a car, i bought him one and he unregistered it. so he would have absolutely nowhere to go..
OH and the smoking, we’re not really bothered by that.. I’m an ex-smoker too, quit about a year ago. and noone in the house has any addictions..

Even as I type this, it seems more than a bit bizarre to me.
However, why not try to contact that TV program, “Intervention”?
It could be the last hope
