Meth Addiction: Second Brother in Crime Team Sentenced
Jeff Brasher given eight-year sentence Wednesday; brother Justin was sentenced to 14 years on Feb. 9. A meth addiction that fueled a property crime spree led Wednesday to an eight-year sentence for Jeff Brasher in 2nd Judicial District Court, even though he’s only 19 and it was his first conviction as an adult. Assistant District Attorney Alissa Berger said Brasher’s name is appropriate, given the brazen and yes, brash, nature of his thievery, which focused on car theft. A presentence report pegged his intravenous methamphetamine use at 60 units a day — roughly eight times the normal dosage for someone his height and weight, Berger said. Although he told probation he was stealing to support himself, Berger said she believed it was more likely that it was to support his drug habit. One victim was the 82-year-old owner of a sporting goods store who left his car idling briefly to run inside when Brasher swooped in. Another was a mother who found him in her garage crouched down next to her car. Brasher’s older brother, Justin, was sentenced earlier this month to 14 years in prison.
