marijuana vs tobacco?

Marijuana is a drug that comes from a plant called cannabis.the growth of this plant was made illegal by the american president franklin roosevelt during the 1970s. it is said that it was made illegal because at that time a lot was being invested in the paper business and the resources being used to grow cannabis needed to be diverted to the production of paper.the world, however, was told that the plant was made illegal because of its dangerous attributes. it contains about 400 compounds, 340 of which are extremelly dangerous. cannabis has THC(tetrahydrocaniibinol) present in it. this is what determines how dangerous the drug is. the higher the THC level, th emore deadly the drug is. hashish, weed, marijuana all come from cannabis.

marijuana quadruples the chances of a heart attack within the first hour of being used.it causes hallucinaions, destroys brain cells and neurons and in some cases, leads to severe psychotic disorders. scared? marijuana probably seems like the most dangerous thing ever.surprisingly, it isn’t. theres something far more common than marijuana that is far more dangerous than it too. the irony is, it has become somewhat socially acceptable. a marijuana user is labelled as a druggie and is frownwd upon, yet someone who is harming himself much more has become socially acceptable, his actions have now become a trend, a fashion. i’m talking about our smoker friends and the lethal weapon they slowly kill themselves with, the cigarette. you got that right, a cigarette is far more harmful than marijuana, an illegal drug.

marijuana has 400 compounds, 340 of which are very dangerous. tobacco has 4000! the icing on the cake is the presence of tar and other carcinogens (cancer causing substances) in cigarettes. they arent present in marijuana, the illegal drug.

cigarettes are far more addictive than marijuana. whether marijuana is addictive or not is a debatable issue, however even if it is addictive, it can’t be as addictive as cigarettes. this is because in cigarettes, the active ingredient, nicotine, has a half life of two hours. this basically means the effects wear off quickly, hence the body demands more.. a smoker can smoke  from 20-30 cigarettes a day, probably even more. on the other hand, marijuana users tend to use it once a day or even a week.. also, marijuana users typically cease use prior to middle age.cigarette smokers continue their habit irrespective of their age. this proves that marijuana does not contain additional addictives that tobacco has. a marijuana user gets satisfaction from one joint of the drug a day. one joint causes the same harm as 5 cigarettes.per day, a cigarette smoker smokes around 25 cigarettes. that makes 5 joints of marijuana!

At the third annual meeting of the international cannabis research society, Dr. donald tashkin, a pulmonologist and professor of medicine at UCLA concluded that heavy marijuana use did not cause the same degree of lung injury as tobacco smoke.

now don’t get me wrong here, i’m not trying to encourage anyone to use marijuana, i’m only trying to discourage people from smoking.we’re scared of marijuana because we live in a society where anything that is declared illegal is frowned upon. what we fail to realise is that some very very dangerous things will never be made illegal as they reap profits. tobacco can be the best example. the tobacco industry is so powerful and influential that the damage it is causing will probably never be exposed. it is up to us to see what’s happening. had the need to apply the economic principle of opportunity cost not arised in the 70s, marijuana would still probably be legal.

marijuana and tobacco both kill. marijuana will kill you in a road accident, tobacco will kill you in a cancer patient ward. personally i’d prefer being run over by a truck than get poked by hundreds of injections over a time period of several months or even years. i think you would too. quit smoking, you’re worse off than a druggie this way.
