Letter from Berivan’s Mother to Erdogan
Berivan is a 15 year old Kurdish girl who was recently convicted of “terror charges” in Turkey. Her innocence, her age and the eight year sentence she has received put a spotlight on the brutal, inhumane and depraved practices of the Turkish government in suppressing and oppressing its minorities. The United Human Rights Council as well as several Armenian and Kurdish youth organizations joined together on March 24 to protest at the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles, demanding for her release and an end to child imprisonment in Turkey. Berivan is a symbol of Turkey’s inhumanity, but she is also a young girl who must be freed.
