Lawrence County Helps Neglected Animals
NEW CASTLE/ELLWOOD CITY, LAWRENCE COUNTY — As winter blows into full force, some furry friends will face the cold temperatures without shelter, food or water. Animal abuse is a growing problem in Lawrence County and more reports of abandoned, neglected or injured pets come in each day. A new non-profit organization is making its goal to one day enforce a zero tolerance policy for animal abuse county wide. That organization is the Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund. Spearheaded by Lawrence County Treasure Richard Rapone, the organization hopes to use the donations it receives to educate the public about the realities of animal abuse and subsidize three local shelters: The Lawrence County Humane Society, Promises for Pets, and Fur-Ever Family. LC-ARF! has split their long term goals into three parts. Titan Radios Michelle Bistrica finds out how each of those goals can become a reality as she talks to Rapone, LC-ARF!s president, and Linda Leitel, a member of the board of directors and co-founder of the Fur-Ever feline rescue in Ellwood City. Those interested in contributing to the Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund can find information on how to make a donation by visiting LC-ARFs temporary website or by calling Rapone at 724-656-2484.
