I’ve gotten extremely paranoid and scared..What’s wrong with me?
Question by : I’ve gotten extremely paranoid and scared..What’s wrong with me?
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I need to fix it, it’s becoming unbearable.
I’ve always been slightly paranoid, but as I’ve gotten older it’s gotten worse. I’m 21 years old and I have to shower with the curtain open at all times so I can see that no one is in the bathroom with me, I’m scared to look into the mirror when it’s dark because I think I might see something I shouldn’t in it. I don’t like walking through my house when the lights are off because I always feel like someone or something is in the dark corners of the room watching me, at night I get scared to look out windows because I might see someone there watching me. Being outside at night, especially alone, is a nightmare. I’m so close to having a panic attack that someone will run up out of nowhere and try to hurt me, like someone on drugs or just a psychopath.
When the guy in Miami had his face eaten by someone on drugs, I started feeling even worse, especially leaving my house at night. Like there are horrible people everywhere that could randomly hurt me and this world has turned into a horrible place. I won’t watch scary movies anymore because I know I’ll lay in bed at night after wards wanting to cry from fear. I usually won’t let my back face my bedroom when I’m in there alone, I’ll have my back against the wall so I can see everything or anyone who could be in there. If a door in my house is cracked and it’s dark inside, it freaks me out and I have to have it shut.
I can tell it’s getting worse because I went outside to have a cigarette today while I was home alone, and earlier in the day I’d watched a video on “the faces of meth” an anti meth use ad. So while I was on my back porch I felt like I had to keep my eyes glued around me to make sure no one scary tried to come hurt me. It’s getting really hard to deal with being this scared all the time. It’s mostly at night, in the dark, and when I’m alone. As a teenager I would stay awake just keeping my eyes open around my room until I became so tired I passed out, but now that I’m married I feel safer going to bed with him at night.
I don’t know if these things have to do with OCD, but I also have to eat certain things in certain ways every time, and like I said I have to keep doors shut and windows and doors locked at all times.
If anyone can please help me..or lead me in the right direction…I’m planning to get some help once our health insurance starts, my husband just started a new job. But anything I can do in the meantime would be great…Sorry so long, thanks for reading.

This isn’t an answer but i always felt that having someone to relate to was comforting (: i’m 18 i am exactly the same! i have always been afraid of the dark and always feel like someone is watching me, i can’t walk around my house without a stomach turning fear that someone is there. i can feel it getting worse but I’ve started to get so sick of being in constant fear that I’ve just decided to embrace it, like purposely sit in the dark or watch scary movies or something else that you wouldn’t dare do before. Then when nothing happens you realise you were being silly. (:
sorry if this isn’t helpful in the slightest, but your not the only one x
