Is Wyoming a great place to live?

Question by Joe J: Is Wyoming a great place to live?
So I’m 19 years old, and dropped out of college 1) to pursue my dream of being a real estate agent, and 2) to work a little bit, get some money together, and move somewhere else…and eventually go to college there.

Anyway, a little background: I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and currently live in Chicago’s far northwest suburbs, near the Wisconsin state line…so I really haven’t experienced living in a place besides Chicagoland, My best friend, who also lives in this area and went to college with me last year, packed up and transferred to University of Wyoming. He invited me to stay with him in Laramie last weekend, and I went out there and absolutely fell in love..the people, the scenery, the weather, it was all beautiful. After staying that spectacular weekend in Laramie, and also taking a trip through Fort Collins and spending an evening in Denver (beautiful city, by the way), he asked me if I would move out there with him and share an apartment. I immediately said yes, but to also give me a few months to get money together, find a job, etc…)

I see myself out there by December 1st. I’ve done a lot of research into Wyoming (taxes, pros/cons, weather, etc) and the only negative aspects I’ve found are the high meth/alcohol abuse rates, and in some instances, the inflated costs of rent and utilities. Regardless, ever since I’ve left Laramie to head back home to Illinois, I’ve begun to see just how ridiculous this state is, and how much living here has become a drain on my emotions. My biggest dream is to live there, but I’ve been putting in a lot of thought. I’d really appreciate an outside opinion, and it would really help if you’ve moved to Wyoming from the Midwest and have some advice. However, like I said, I’d appreciate any advice I can get from others. Please and thank you!
