Is there amphetamines in Germany?
Question by Robbie Dudes: Is there amphetamines in Germany?
I am called to Germany for a temporary job which requires insane concentration, but I have a severe ADD and without Adderal I work 90% slower if not at all … seriously! so I’d like to know if ADHD/ADD is recognized right there and if I can find English speaking psychiatrists, or I’ll have to refuse the offer to avoid embarrassment.
I’m given the choice to stay either in Dusseldorf or Freiburg, which do you recommend?
Thanks

Most brain disorders and other conditions were discovered by German medical professionals, so there is a chance that ADHD/ADD will be recognised in Germany.

Your psychiastrist should get into into contact with a German doctor to write you a scrip, but if you’re depending on methamphetamines, I’d disrecommend travel at all. You might want to try out if you can sustain yourself for five days without any medication, as that’s the worst case (two days of flight with timeshift, and a weekend ahead), and if you can do that, try and come here. However, I wouldn’t say that I used Methamphetamines on a regular basis, because they’re under drug laws here and drug addicts won’t maybe be allowed into the EU.

edit:
@Barbara, I wouldn’t say that Methamphetamines aren’t available in Germany; I’ve been to the Rolling Stones “Urban Jungle” tour in the 1990ies both in Munich and East Berlin, and I wouldn’t say that Mick [Jagger] wasn’t heavily drugged on both occasions when I saw him on stage, but as maybe in every country, drug laws are strictly applied on ordinary citizens while artists can get away with it. While there’s state law in Germany regarding something from 5 to 30 grams of hemp (“marijuana”) as “for own consumption” and will be confiscated but not prosecuted, they have a strict attitude towards “speed” or “crystal meth”: Even a tenth of a gram can cost you jail, and for a foreigner, extradition and a disallowance to return to the European Union for years. Think twice before you try!
