Is there a difference between crack cocaine and cocaine powder?

Question by : ): Is there a difference between crack cocaine and cocaine powder?
I was watching something the other day. I know that one is a rock and the other is a powder, but why does it take 5 grams of crack to get a minimum of 5 years, but 500 grams of cocaine to get the same sentence? Do I have wrong information?
