Is New Drug Detox and Rehab Drug Combination a Viable Treatment Option?
There is a new drug currently being tested in Las Vegas drug courts. The drug, Prometa, which is actually a combination of three drugs, which is already approved for other purposes, marketed by Hythiam, – Inc., although the company’s marketing practices have been criticized as unethical – as part of a drug detoxification and rehabilitation program. Hythiam says it will reduce or eliminate cravings for alcohol, cocaine and methamphetamine. Prometa is promising as a viabledrug detox option? Let’s have a look.
First things first: Prometa has not been approved by the FDA for safety or efficacy. Several doctors used it to their patients through drug detox and rehab, and some have reported positive results to help, but after the Hythiam website, clinical trials are now underway to confirm these reports.
An earlier drug trial conducted in Pierce County, Washington, to determine whether Prometa would be effectiveas part of the county drug court drug detox and drug rehab program ended, to be found in an article in the Las Vegas Sun, with funding cut off after auditors that the results of earlier studies were biased to Prometa far appear to be active, and that several officials and heads of non-profit hospital management of the program is held in Hythiam.

There is a long list of others, but lesser-known side effects that include everything from tremors, double vision, nervousness and anxiety bronchitis, ear infections and conjunctivitis. And rarely, it can thyroid problems, high cholesterol, ulcers, hernias, irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, sexual problems, arthritis and kidney stones.
