In What Way Has The Invasion of Iraq Helped The Iraqi People?
Question by StellaStar: In What Way Has The Invasion of Iraq Helped The Iraqi People?
Sectarian violence is a daily event, most schools in the capital are closed, most infrastructure has been destroyed, priceless relics have been destroyed or looted, poverty, unemployment, crime and drug abuse are at all time highs.
What benefits are the Iraqis experiencing to counteract these “unfortunate side effects” of our invasion of another sovereign nation?
Could the people who keep insuisting that the Iraqis have freedom now please explain how you can possibly be free when you dare not shop or go to school for fear of being blown up or shot by security forces who think you want to blow something up? And as for “they have food now”. Many of them do not. Or basic medicines. Saddam was a bad man. A very bad man. But western democracies refused shelter to those who tried to flee his regime and have only made his victim’s lives worse by the invasion. I want to know when we are going to start HELPING the Iraqis or admit we should have left Saddam where he was and taken in refugees!
And for the information of “witwatts” I do not only watch/listen/read biased news reports. I take my sources from a variety of mainstream print and electronic media, digital media and alternative news sources. I also have a few Iraqi friends,(obviously you do not!) some of whom are lucky enough to still have relatives left alive in Iraq and some whose relatives have died since th invasion. I have not been to Iraq, no. And only one of them has since the invasion. Their families over there tell them it is too dangerous. These are some of the potential refugees we would not take in.
We can lie to ourselves about our motives and our results in this war but the Iraqi people know the truth. I am afraid they may never forgive us for it.
