Question by Concerned Parent: I’m thinking about putting my child in rehab?
My 16-year-old daughter and I have a lot of problems and we don’t get along. We’re in counseling but I know she uses alcohol, marijuana and other drugs as an emotional clutch. It’s not to the point where she needs it and will do anything to get it, but more of a cry for attention? Still, she comes home wasted not even able to say her name correctly. Would rehab be a good choice, or is that going too far?

You shouldn’t be discussing this with yahoo, you should be discussing it with her. Make sure the way you suggest it, is informal and don’t call a family meeting or whatever. Just suggest the idea and ask if she’d ever want rehab. It’s her choice whether to go or not, and will only work if she willing. Tell her she doesn’t need to make a decision now, but it’s just an option as you care for her.
