I’m depressed and I don’t know why?
Question by Asdfghjkl;: I’m depressed and I don’t know why?
I’m a 15 year old who’s been feeling depressed for over a year now. I’m not exactly sure why, though. I haven’t been diagnosed with depression, but I used to often break down and cut and I almost attempted suicide last year. My life’s not bad, as I don’t experience serious issues like neglect, abuse, poverty, rape, etc. Because of that, my friends scoff at me for feeling depressed since I “don’t have any real problems”. I do get sad over things like feeling I don’t fit in, pressured with grades, social and physical image, etc. Those are things many teens go through, but for some reason I take it to an extend by wanting to kill myself, feeling like the world would be better without me and no one really cares. How should I reach out for help? My friends don’t help, so I tried prevention chats and they’re not too effective. I think I need to see a counselor or therapist, but I’m scared about my parents knowing since they believe depression is only for “crazy people in rehab”. Also, any other advice would be highly appreciated, thank you.

Sounds like you are suffering from major depression. Seek help from a mental health professional like a psychiatrist.

No one on Yahoo Answers can diagnose you. Next time you go to your doctor for a check up or if you can simply make an appointment and go discuss this with him/her. You need to seek a proper diagnosis and then treatment. This could be anything from clinical depression to body dysmorphic disorder.
If your parents are going to judge you, all you can do is try to educate them or tell your doctor and ask him/her to speak with your parents. At the end of the day if they judge you, they judge you and you cannot do anything about it. Speak to a guidance counselor if you cannot get to your doctor.
If you need to speak with someone immediately call this number (if you are in America) 1-800-273-8255, or if you click the website I have linked in my source there is the option to chat to a live person about your issues.
And the post below me is insane. Please do not regard that highly.
