if you sign up for high speed internet and buy a router does that allow you to use the high speed on laptops?

Question by Karen Foster: if you sign up for high speed internet and buy a router does that allow you to use the high speed on laptops?
my mom switched services and got high speed internet and i’ll be staying with her for the summer. well she has a home computer and then i have my own laptop and someone told her that if she got a router she could then use that to let me use my laptop wirelessly. but i thought wireless internet was something seperate you had to pay more for? even if its not wireless would i still be able to use my laptop with the router if i have one of those cords? sry if i’m confusing, as you can see idk what i’m talking about.
so were all set with just the high speed and we dont need to actually but wireless service if we get the wifi router?

Nope, all you and Mom need is a WIFI capable router. Her existing modem will plug into the router instead of her computer and then a second cable well run from the router to her desk top. The router will have an antenna that will broadcast the WIFI signal to your laptop. That’s all there is to it.

If you purchase the router for some one like Staples or Office Depot, they can help you a little by explaining the basic hook up.

The router sould cost somewhere in the 40 to 60 dollar range.
