If crime is caused by poverty, why is prison dominated by black people?

Question by Sikho: If crime is caused by poverty, why is prison dominated by black people?
When, by raw numbers, there are more whites in poverty than there are blacks?
Why do liberals continue to perpetuate this filthy lie which is completely unsupported by the facts?

The countries with the highest crime rates are not the poorest in the world; the murder rate by country is dominated by Latin American countries which are far richer than many African and Asian countries.
The world’s most dangerous cities are in Mexico, which is actually a fairly rich country, relatively speaking (57th out of approximately 200 on the Human Development Index).
@Dave, minorities are overrepresented in almost every crime statistic. They are far overrepresented for murder, assault and rape too. I suppose that is also the fault of a racist system?
