Without going into too much detail here….

Methamphetamine is very similar chemically to a drug called Ephedrine.

Ephedrine is a drug that helps clear the snot out of your head and gives you a little bit of energy to get you going when you are sick.

Think of an Ephedrine molecule as this:
X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-A

And Methamphetamine like this:
X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-B

That little switch from A to B makes all the difference in the world.
H-Cl is hydrochloric acid
H(2)0 is water

See, that one molecule changes from plain water to a corrosive acid.. A much different chemical, that will make quite different reactions.. But just a little bit different when you look at it.
