If a hair drug test comes up negative for amphetamines; can it still show positive for methamphetamines?
Question by Derrick S: If a hair drug test comes up negative for amphetamines; can it still show positive for methamphetamines?
A hospital that I took my Fiance to did a urine test for drugs. They stated that she tested positive for methamphetamine. They refused to give her a repeat test, upon her request so when she got out of the hospital; we had a hair test done on her, which goes back 90 days. Her test was a 5 panel and came up negative for all drugs, including amphetamines. From what the testing center told me; only if the amphetamines panel shows up positive, they dig deeper to determine what kind of amphetamine it is.

I would call the particular testing center you used and ask them if they classify methamphetamine as an amphetamine. It is common to either outright test for methamphetamine or to classify methamphetamine as a type of amphetamine in a hair drug test.
So take for example this sample report in my link below. This is a very common home hair test brand. You can see that meth is classified as an amphetamine. So if you weren’t positive for amphetamine, then you wouldn’t be positive for methamphetamine.
It’s possible on a urine test that your fiancée got a false positive. Vick’s Inhaler of all things can cause you to be positive for meth.
I hope this helps!
