I took hydrocodone for the first trimester of my pregnancy…I’m almost to my second trimester?
Question by sparkle7776896969: I took hydrocodone for the first trimester of my pregnancy…I’m almost to my second trimester?
I read their are risks to the fetus, but what will happen? Will it come out with brain damager? Missing an arm? I am stopping now, but if I can’t (yes I am in a drug rehabilitation program now, and they are weaning me off) what will happen to my baby? I take about 2 – 3 hydrocodones a day.
I had an ultra sound at 7 weeks and they said the heartbeat is good and everything looks good (I know that early you can’t really see much, but that did put my mind at ease). Am I killing my baby? Is there a chance he could come out healthy and normal? Please help me, and please don’t judge too harshly – I’m trying…
My doc said if I stopped cold turkey, that it would be worse to my baby than weaning myself off (with the withdrawals and everything).
Thank you in advance…

Your doctor knows best, and if they aren’t worried then you shouldn’t be. People make mistakes and what is honorable is that you are having the baby and you are trying to be clean. That’s so commendable! I had to take vicodin for a week (which is hydrocodone) and it was prescribed. I know if you take it right before birth the baby can have difficulty breathing. Yes there is a good chance he will come out just fine as long as you get treatment and stop. Keep talking with your doctor and concentrate on becoming healthy. 🙂
