have discovered that they can supplement their income by either actually having an accident or making it appear as though they suffered an accident by seeing an unscrupulous doctor who prescibes Oxycontin, which gets them almost immediately addicted, when they go the further step and add crack cocaine or methamphetamine to their agenda, that’s when things get out of hand. I have had the local sheriffs dept. here on numerous occaisions and they can’t seem to figure out why I would be upset about 5 minute visitors at all hours of the day or night, also the lack of care given to a really nice apartment. My Question is this: Is the abuse of Oxycontin a national epidemic, or is it just here in Southwest Florida?

It’s pretty much everywhere these days.

Prescription drugs are the ‘in’ thing at the moment. Just look at all the teens raiding their parent’s medicine cabinets and throwing ‘pill parties’. Burglaries at pharmacys are on the rise as well.

I think somehow the kids have this mistaken idea that if it comes from a doctor or pharmacy, then it isn’t as dangerous or addictive as recreational street drugs. It doesn’t help matters that, as a society, we’re taking more prescription medication than ever before. Not that I have anything against meds since they do help a lot of people live better lives, but it does reinforce the idea among the youngsters that “pills are good”.
