I have a schizophrenic loved one and nobody wants to help him! Help me!?

Question by Erin R: I have a schizophrenic loved one and nobody wants to help him! Help me!?
I am 16 years old and my cousin Jerry just turned 30 two days ago. me and him are very good friends and we relate alot, but i want to help him so badly. im planning on becoming a psychiatrist because i am infatuated with mental illness, ive read every book there is to read on schizophrenia.
He is a TEXTBOOK SCHIZOPHRENIC!!

we get along so well because he has the mentally of a 16 year old.

i always tell my aunt chrissy that he needs help but she says its the drugs. He is also addicted to prescription meds, very common for people with mental illness.

This is not a matter of is he or isnt he, this is, HE NEEDS HELP NOW!

Im in a pickle because i am the only person who doesn’t criticize, attack, or judge him. I try to make him feel better about himself and if i say, i think you need mental help, then that will make everything worse because he will think i am just like everyone else.

What should i do?
nobody wants to accept that he has a problem because that will make the family “look bad” (oh believe me, thats another story that i dont want to get into), and i cant just say “you need mental help”

i am in a huge bind, i care about him very much and i just want him to be normal and happy!
