I recently bought a Trane Heat pump with variable speed air handler. I am in a three floor townhouse and the top floor never gets cool in the summer. My though was auto” in the winter and “on” in the summer to keep air moving.
I should also say thank you to those that answered my question about what to buy. A local Trane dealer was $ 2500 cheaper than sears!

Keep it on Auto. If you put it on the on selection you are constantly running it and your electric bill will get high. keep it auto and see why nothing gets cool on the top floor, you may need a booster fan installed in the duct work to assist the fan.
