How to Understand Treatment Philosophy for Alcoholism with Dr. Rodriquez and Delraycenter.com – At the Delray Center we have our philosophy as far as how to treat and manage alcoholism in the short run and the long run. In the short run we need to detox first, it needs to be safe and comfortable, if it’s not comfortable for alcohol it is not safe. So we detox people with time we will give the appropriate medication so that they can often times function in their daily lives and not have a major complication such as a seizure or other major medical problems. After the detox is done and we mean done by fully done by without no post acute withdrawal so there is no lingering symptoms then you address issues like cravings. We have medications that we can use for cravings such as vivotrol and campral, then we start to get into therapy to address the issues why somebody went into drinking and to help neutralize common triggers that have driven their drinking in the past. We address issues like depression and anxiety through therapy and medication so that those major triggers can also be neutralize. There is more follow up and structure earlier in treatment and eases up over time but we make it a point to maintain some level of bond, the connection of all clients so that their long term recovery has the best chance of success.
