How to See the Pitfalls in Alcoholism with Dr Rodriquez and Delray Center

Pitfalls in Alcoholism Now lets talk about some of the common pitfalls in alcoholism. One of the common pitfalls is a resurgence of denial. Denial is something that we don’t just deal with before we seek treatment, it actually comes up during treatment and long after treatment during the recovery phase. It’s very easy especially with alcoholism to fall back into a state where we believe we don’t have a problem anymore. We believe we have cured it, we believe we are over it and we can go back to drinking. That happens to anyone at anytime and we have to always be mindful of it and look out for it. The other common pitfall is people tend to drop out of treatment or they stop their aftercare or their relapse prevention program, they stop going to meetings they stop going to groups, they stop going to therapy and that makes them very vulnerable to relapse or vulnerable to denial which them makes them vulnerable to relapses. Those are probably the two single, biggest common pitfalls in alcohol treatment that could be avoided and can be accounted for and prevent really most relapses.Raul J Rodriguez MD, a double Board Certified Psychiatrist and Addictionologist, discusses addiction and family history www.delraycenter.com
