How to get experience for counseling?
Question by Becks: How to get experience for counseling?
I want to become a Marriage and Family counselor, or drug and substance abuse.
I need expierience for my grad school application, but I don’t know where to get it.
I thought about becoming a mediator, but that isn’t really available to me without paying an arm and a leg.
I have my undergrad in Criminal Justice. I love the court room, and am waiting to get a position at the local jail working with juveniles.

Are you currently in college as an Undergraduate Student right now? If yes, talk to your Academic Advisor to see if there are any Internship Placements available that he/she knows of and if he/she could recommend one for you. An internship is a great way to gain much needed, valuable experience in the field. Or, you could apply to become a Youth Counselor at some group home. They don’t require any Higher Education/Training for Youth Counselors.
