I have a friend who was drinking as an alcoholic would for a few years…he stopped drinking about 3 weeks ago, and doesn’t want to drink anymore…but he doesn’t seem happy..he’s moody, irritable, wants to stay home alot…will he ever go back to the person he was before he started drinking, or will he always be moody??? How long without a drink will put him back to normal???

I would say anywhere from 1 – 3 weeks. He may have other issues like depression which led him to drink to begin with. Many people self medicate to get away from reality, unfortunately it is a temporary solution that often leads to more hardships for them.
