How is it that people on the show Intervention, not know they’re getting an intervention?

Question by JJRose: How is it that people on the show Intervention, not know they’re getting an intervention?
I’m asking because the show has been on for so many years and is so popular, how are they still able to conduct interventions without the person knowing? I mean who hasn’t at least heard of the show and know pretty much how it works? They take a person that’s addicted to drugs, tell them they are doing a show about addiction and then surprise them with an intervention. Who in the year 2010 would fall for it?

Maybe they secretly do want to be helped and they trick themselves into thinking it is a documentary. Or they haven’t seen the show or didn’t think it would happen to them? I don’t know haha
