How fast does drug/alcohol abuse deteriorate a man in his 60’s?
Question by pillowlady: How fast does drug/alcohol abuse deteriorate a man in his 60’s?
My husband has been drinking for at least 50 yrs and smoked cigs for about that long. He has started smoking pot and doing other drugs. I kicked him out 6 months ago. He looked bad after a month later when he came for his things. (still high) I am wondering how all this substance abuse has affected his brain and liver, etc. I’m new to the drug thing and I’m asking and learning now. He and I are done.
He binge drank for the 26 yrs we were married. He drove so drunk/high he couldn’t recall how the vehicle’s windshield got cracked all over. I’d wait up for him when he came in from work, always on time, but, most always drunk/drugged so he did it on the job, I think. I’m glad this mess is over

I’m sorry to hear that. It sounds very painful; I’m glad you’ve moved on, although I understand why you are still concerned about him. The alcohol has likely done serious damage to his liver and possibly to his brain. The smoking probably has done damage to many important organs and the circulatory and respiratory system. I don’t know what other drugs you are talking about. Marijuana is harmless, it will not do him many damage, temporary or permanent.
But it sounds like he’s not going to stop doing what he’s doing. I guess we just have to hope that if one of his habits gets the best of his health that it isn’t too serious. Good luck.
