how do you successfully stage an intervention?

Question by puppylove: how do you successfully stage an intervention?
I have this friend who has a problem with alcohol. The last time I was over at his place, he outright and admittedly told me that he was an alcoholic. I haven’t told him this yet, but he really worries me a great deal. I really want to help him, and realize there’s only so much I can do or say. I was thinking of staging an intervention, and I really wouldn’t know what to do from there. Anyone have any advice?
