how do I talk about my relapse to my cousin?
Question by Cat: how do I talk about my relapse to my cousin?
Two years ago I snorted everything I could find, any form of pain killers. It felt like I had to have them in order to focus on what I was doing. I would do a few lines before school, lines after school, and a few more lines at night just to get me high. Last year I wanted to stop. I slowed down on taking the pills and eventually I stopped doing them all together. My cousin understood what I was going through, he’s a been there done that type of guy. Unfortunately, he’s still doing pain pills.Although, since I’ve been off of pills he’s told me that’s he’s trying to get off of them and if I ever do anything like that again he’ll basically kick my ***. He’s only hit me once and that was when I stole his dad’s Xanex. Well, it had been about three months since I last did any pills. It’s like, he’s the only person I can tell though because he’s the only one who knows about everything I went through before. Well, long story short, I few days ago one of my friends had some pain killers. I was having a bad day anyway, so I took them without thinking about it. I have about seven left over and I’ve been taking them for the last few days. And I feel great. All the pain vanished, everything that had been upsetting me just went away. I don’t need to go to rehab, before you even say that, because my addiction isn’t that bad. But I’m terrified of relapsing. I want to tell my cousin, but I’m afraid a little ashamed. How can I tell him without him getting disappointed?

if your cousin thinks you are currently clean….telling him that you not is not going to help him in any kind of way ….it will make him more likely to think getting clean just can’t be done …..and that is not something he needs to feel …..You relapsed when you took your friend’s pain killers ….so only you will know what you will do once the supply is gone…..but your cousin is the wrong person to involve in this if you care for him.
