How do I find a company that will allow me to use “partial load” shipping of my furniture?

Question by Peter H: How do I find a company that will allow me to use “partial load” shipping of my furniture?
My mom said that it is a cheaper way to move furniture than getting a U-Haul and driving it, but she hasn’t done it in quite a long time, and I can’t find any resources on the internet regarding it. Does anyone know how to go about finding a “partial load” company? Will check back and give 10 pts for best answer

I’m not sure I understand what you mean with “partial load”. Truck rental companies (such as U-Haul) carry different size trucks and pick up and vans so you can rent what you need according to the size of your shipment. With professional moving companies you will pay according to your shipment: if you’re moving locally- usually by the hour (then the less you have the less time it takes); if you’re moving to another state- by weight or volume of shipment (and again, the less you haev the cheaper it usually is). So in any case you are usually spending according to what you have and there is no questions of “partial load”, you are not expected to fill a whole truck.

In general, you have three basic options when moving, you’ll have to consider what’s best for you and compare rates:

1. Pods- Basically it’s portable storage. You load them, the company will deliver them for you. To find sizes and rates, try the following link:

2. Rental trucks- You load and unload, you drive. To find out rates and availability check the following link:

3. Moving company- Prices will vary depends on the company although they normally work by a pretty standard basic tariff. You can use one of the directories listed in the link below to receive several free quotes in one submission with no obligation:

Or you can look for movers by state:

Good luck.
