Homemade alcohol, what kind of yeast?

Question by Cano: Homemade alcohol, what kind of yeast?
So its my first time making alcohol at home, I’m starting off making wine in a 1 gallon jug with concentrated juice, sugar, yeast, water and letting it ferment and then transferring it to a different container after it’s fermented to let it age for a few months.
Basically I have that part down packed.
WHAT KIND OF YEAST DO I USE?
There are all kinds of yeast in my nearby brewery store that I just don’t know which one to buy as my start-up. I know the directions say use “super yeast” or “distillers yeast”, but in the store there are all kinds of yeast and I don’t want to grab the wrong kind of yeast. So i told you what kind of wine I’m making, I need to know what kind of yeast to use. There are brands and types and all of that, sort of like the variety of breeds in a dog or cat. lol
help me out here.
Thanks, I’m not planning on distilling yet until I know what I’m doing with fermentation. Right now I’m just studying on the fermentation process and I don’t want to go through a trial and error type of process.
Any more information on kinds of yeast is very helpful.
Thanks again

Get some wine yeast, most are made to do what you want. Basically though they are all the same. it is the same type of yeast that is used in all brewing. It simply varies by strain.

Some of the wine yeasts are made to make a lower alcohol content. This is to make sweet wine so the yeast leaves some of the sugar behind. There are also strains that do better under cold conditions, used for making lagers. But basically they are all the same.

Super yeast and distillers yeast is about as basic as you can get. And if you are making mash for distilling you might as well use baking yeast as you do not care about the other tastes the yeast makes (you will distill them out anyway).

Look for a nice white wine yeast. They are cheap and easy to obtain.
