High school girl, caffeine addiction?

Question by cynthiacraver: High school girl, caffeine addiction?
Hi everyone, I am a typical over achieving 16 year old girl. I take pride in being dedicated to school, and my grades have always been good. I’m now in my junior year and starting to get overwhelmed with work. I began drinking coffee a few months ago in order to stay awake and study when I was tired. I loved the feeling I got after I had a cup or two, I felt very focused and I could get huge amounts of schoolwork done in short amounts of time. I started drinking more coffee more often, and I keep a stash of caffeine pills for emergencies when I have too much work. I know there are much worse things I could be doing, but I have one girlfriend who thinks I have a “caffeine addiction” I didnt consider it a problem before she said that, but she looked worried and it made me think. Is drinking a lot of coffee really that bad?

Any substance abuse can and will lead to your downfall.

it is a drug, and also dehydrating.. you might want to research ‘caffeine side effects’
Coffee is also an acid – our bodies are alkaline.. so each time you have a coffee your body has to draw calcium out of your bones to buffer the acid.. however, if you eat something alkaline (like fruits and veggies) with the coffee, you can counteract the acidity..
Personally, I don’t drink coffee very often. I might have a cup of decaf once a week, if I am out.. but otherwise I drink a coffee substitute – there are a few grain beverages at the store – no it isn’t coffee 🙂 but it is hot, and makes me feel like I am drinking a coffee with everyone else..
