Heroin. Methadone. Crystal Meth. Titrate Down?? Friend. Where can I go for online help?

Question by Raven: Heroin. Methadone. Crystal Meth. Titrate Down?? Friend. Where can I go for online help?
So my friend is coming down from heroin for the second time. The first lasted 5 days, and he started again due to tooth pain. Not a good sign, pain will always be part of life.

Anyway, he’s doing it again, and was generally down to $ 7.00 worth a day when he stopped, because he didn’t want to die, or something. The anxiety last time was too much, so he got crystal to bridge the gap, but lost his sobriety, and shot it up too quickly, just causing a let-down. He doesn’t think methadone works, but he’s TRASHED my house, and broken my things with his “world hates me” temper tantrums.

I like him great when he’s sober. I don’t know what to do. He wants me to mete out a new batch of crystal, but I don’t know anything about it. Some, who’ve quit heroin recommend keeping a small amount of it for an emergency back-up plan.

I need real advice from someone who knows, or knows of a worthy message board, not just people saying not to let him do any, or get him to rehab. -And I have about 20.00 left for an entire week.

Anything?? I specifically want to know about methadone, crystal, “titrading down”, and how it can make him trash my house, and say I’m out to get him.

Thanks.
Thanks .., He even mentioned the possibility of causing harm while in one of those states, and I do worry because I live with three cats. There is no way I’m going to put them in any additional danger, `though he’s been good to them so far (they’d tattle).

I can’t just send him back to the street to do what he was doing for money, and I don’t want him to die. Partly because of the drugs, he’s often at a place where death sounds fine, as long as he can keep using. I’m clearly in far, far over my head, but don’t have money for resources. In fact, do you know of any free resources for heroin recovery that wouldn’t put him through the ringer to get in? Things are always so tenuous.

Thanks Everyone!

Drug withdrawals can cause serious, even life threatening physical problems. You have already seen the moody – emotional side. It is almost impossible to withdraw on your own. It really is some thing that needs to be handled by professionals who are medically trained to deal with it.
Even alcohol withdrawals can cause violent, angry physical outbursts with a confused individual who isn’t sure where or who he is.
There is no way to withdraw from heroine by using an upper, like Meth. You are basically substituting the frying pan for the fire. Both are almost instantly addictive. Heard of robbing Peter to pay Paul. There it is.
I simply can’t stress this enough, you are in physical danger and so is your friend. If he is really a person you value, you will stop this attempt to handle this on your own. You friend can die from the withdrawal or could kill you in the process and not even realize he did it. There will be no sympathy for a junkie in court.
Think about this, are you ready to handle a cardiac emergency, how are you going to treat his kidney and liver failure? I don’t think you can at home. What if he overdoses at your house that he just trashed?? Got some Narcan laying around? Nope. This is bigger than both of you at the moment. Kicking is one thing, the real work starts after rehab is over. Please re-think your strategy and take a hard look at what you are dealing with. Your friend isn’t going to start off in rehab, he is going to start off in ICU. This is that serious.
