Help me relieve my opiate withdrawl?
Question by Buck: Help me relieve my opiate withdrawl?
I am a 28 year old guy and have had 2 separate spinal surgeries in my life. Both have gotten me addicted to Lortab and Percocet. The first time I quit cold turkey and got about 3 days into my with drawl and gave up and checked into a treatment center. 2 years later, here I am again. Had a spinal disk fusion about 3 months ago. Been taking pain pills like crazy and realize now the pain is gone, but I can’t quit the pills.
I remember in treatment for the symptoms, they gave me Phenobarbital (a barbituate used to prevent stress and thus seizures) and Tramadol aka Ultram (non-narcotic pain killer). It worked wonders. I felt great.
Good news is all the while they were giving me the Lortabs, they were also giving me Tramadol. I practically STOCKPILED the stuff for this instance here. To avoid treatment centers. However, I think the Phenobarb was really the actual good part. I am still having bad leg cramps and worst of all SLEEPLESSNESS. I need sleep.
Can someone tell me if this is safe and what else can I do?

Buck a couple of questions to see if I can understand your situation clearer. How do you know the pain is gone from a surgery just 3 months ago, if you still are on pain meds. You know if you take pain meds as directed by one doctor for pain that does not mean you have an addiction, it means you and your doctor are attempting to control your pain. My suggestion is talk to the doctor and instead of going cold turkey have the doctor slowly cut you back over several months. Pheno is to prevent seizures, but if you cut back slowly seizures should not be an issue. Also eat bananas for the potassium for the leg cramps and drank Gator-Aid.
Also Tramadol is addictive, so be just as careful with this drug. As far as sleep goes ask the doctor for Tizanidine, which is a muscle relaxer that will help you sleep without another addiction.
If you realize you are possibly an addict, why not go into treatment, not just Detox and get to the root of the issue instead of just brushing over the surface? But if you are a pain patient then deal openly with a pain management doctor and discuss your concerns about addiction. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to email me.
