HELP! Custody laws in Georgia if parents of baby aren’t married?

Question by dc41308: HELP! Custody laws in Georgia if parents of baby aren’t married?
Hi, I live in Georgia. I’m 18 and my boyfriend and I aren’t married. He decided he didn’t want to be with me anymore but he wants custody of our baby that will be born in May. He is joining the military after he graduates in May and thinks that just because he’ll be making more money than me and because I live with my dad, the court will give him custody of the baby. Is this true? What will happen if I don’t let him sign the birth certificate? He also said that he is going to tell the court that I “abused” him when all I did was throw a pack of baby wipes at him when he cursed me out one day. He said that he’s going to tell them I’m an unfit parent because of things I used to do back when I was 16 years old. Let me tell you that I do not drink, smoke or do drugs. I have a job and I’m going to be attending community college in the Fall. I don’t see how I’m an unfit parent but he said he will tell them things I did in the past. Will this have any affect on the outcome? I need as much information as possible because I do not want him getting custody of the baby. Thanks in advance.
