Has Phentermine ever been prescribed to treat depression?
Question by Savannah Taylor: Has Phentermine ever been prescribed to treat depression?
My father has recently admitted to using meth. He claims he is using it as a treatment for his depression. His explanation was that he was once prescribed Phentermine for his depression and it was the only thing that worked to treat it. After they stopped prescribing it for him due to new guidelines for health regulations, he turned to meth as an alternative. He claims he uses it as he did the pills to regulate his mood and it doesn’t affect him the way people would say a “drug addict” would be affected.
My knowlege of phentermine is that it is a treatment for obesity-a weight loss medication. I’ve never heard of it being anything else. I want to give him the benefit of a doubt, but personally, it seems to me he is simply addicted to a very bad drug and is using this story about being prescribed phentermine as an excuse.
Can anyone lend me their opinion or knowlege on the subject? I feel totally lost.
Thank you.
