Has anyone ever used “Legal Insurance” like Pre-paid legal to help get them out of a difficult legal situation?

Question by GetUrLearnOn: Has anyone ever used “Legal Insurance” like Pre-paid legal to help get them out of a difficult legal situation?
I’ve had legal insurance for a few years now, I signed up when I was trying to buy a house back in early 2005, when the housing market was about like it is now (a BUYERS market). The mortgage broker gave me a number for a pre-paid legal associate ( http://www.prepaidlegal.com/hub/merrillj ) and she told me that I would need to get an attorney to help with the closing details. She was right, I couldn’t make sense out of the “legalese” in the mortgage documentation, let alone a sellers contract!

It was kind of cool, it turns out, the guy who signed me up was the older brother of a lead singer of a band that I really like (Puddle of Mudd), and he tells me all about how the band was conflicted about there most recent album, what to name it, which songs to use, etc etc, anyway…

My question now… with this tough economy, do I really NEED my “legal expense” plan anymore? What’s cool about it, is when I used to deliver pizza, I would get about 5-8 speeding tickets a year, and the legal insurance actually ELIMINATED all but about 4 of the 30+ points I WOULD have had on my license for NO EXTRA CHARGE, and got 3 of the tickets completely dismissed! But I don’t drive like that anymore, and after next year, my driving record should be clean again. I know it’s only $ 27 a month to cover me and my spouse and kids, but does anyone else use things like ” legalzoom.com ” or something similar to help with there legal stuff? When I was younger, it was THE BEST investment I ever made to join the legal insurance plan, but now that times are tough, I’m considering other options, like self representation (Pro Se’) and getting rid of the plan to save a few bucks a month.
