Has anyone else been prescribed to Chantix to help with opiate addiction?

Question by mp: Has anyone else been prescribed to Chantix to help with opiate addiction?
I’m prescribed to Chantix along with Lorcet 10/650. The Lorcet is lowered every 2 weeks until I’m weaned off. My doctor says that the Chantix will help with the opiate addiction also. I did tell him I smoke but I only smoke a pack a week or less, usually only if I drink which isnt often. Does this seem odd to anyone else? Preferably a Nurse, Doctor, or Pharmacist answer this or someone with a similar experience.
It is definitely not an anti-depressant. If you do minor research you will find this out. Yes it does have to do with dopamine and blocking the receptors in the part of your brain that craves nicotine but it is definitely not an anti-depressant

Chantix is a new drug they came out with to help you quit smoking. I would say it is an antidepressant of some sort, but I could be wrong. It is supposedly very different than the current treatment for smoking in a pill: Wellbutrin.

I found this info: Varenicline, a new nicotinic ligand based on the structure of cytisine, has recently been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use as a smoking cessation aid. Varenicline has been shown to be a partial agonist of alpha4beta2 receptors, and in equilibrium binding assays, it is highly selective for the alpha4beta2 receptor.
