General Drug Testing Information.?
Question by Eric: General Drug Testing Information.?
I am in treatment for an addiction and part of that is getting a drug test every week. The test they give is a urine test and they look for absolutly everything. I have a question about two of the tests as they list them, one being for oxycodone and the other for heroin(morphine/opiates). According to them if I take oxycodone I will fail the oxycodone test and if I take heroin then I will fail the heroin test, which makes perfect sence. Though it does not seem to matter what I take, both or either one or the other, and I still sometimes fail both tests. For example I failed my last two drug tests. The first one I took oxycodone and only oxycodone so therefor I failed for oxycodone. My second tests I still failed for oxycodone as well as the heroin test without ever doign any heroin. This has happened a few times. It has been about two weeks since I last did anything and if I fail for them this week I do not knwo wha to say. I was under the impression that oxycodone and heroin were pretty much the same thing when it comes to drug tests. Turns out I was wrong but could someone could explain to me how they differ?

It depends on what medications they have you on. Some will give false positives for different drug classes.
For example methadone is synthetic heroin used by people who have gotten off heroin — on a drug test they will still test POS, because of the methadone, but since the facility/doctor finds this out before the test they negate the result. (ie the result is expected due to their medication).
Since we have no idea what meds you are on, we can’t give you any further advice in this area. Also, some drugs you may have done WEEKS ago are still in your system and showing up. This happens as well (for example, THC stays in the system up to 60 days for people who smoke every day, even if they don’t do any more THC for that 60 days)
