Joseph Bearden faced the death penalty for repeatedly stabbing Ryan Skipper for being Gay, on March 14, 2007. Bearden has two dagger tattoos above and underneath his left eye. Under his right eye is also a small teardrop. On his neck, you can see the top of another tattoo that is an copra snake poised ready to strike. During jury selection, potential jurors were individually questioned as to whether the markings influenced them one way or the other as to the defendant’s guilt. While in jail it was reported that Mr. Bearden was beaten up so severely he was admitted to the hospital because of his injuries. Bearden later got these tattoos to help survive jailhouse life.
