BERN, Switzerland (AP) Roman Polanski was declared a free man on Monday after Switzerland rejected a U.S. request to extradite him to be sentenced for having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl.

House of Hope slates fundraiser
One of the sure signs of summer is the increase in the number of women reaching out for help from the Tazewell County House of Hope. The House of Hope — a domestic battery shelter for women and children who are fleeing from an abuser — sees an increase in clients every summer, said House of Hope Executive Director Earlene Marion.
