Father Son Song – Every Boy Needs A Dad

I wrote this father son song. This is a first cut of this song and it will probably be hacked away at and fine tuned over the next few months. I wrote this song in the airport in my head about a year ago and finally put it down on paper. At the time I had just witnessed a father in the airport yelling at his 3yr old son to get away from him and stop bugging him with questions about airplanes. Something in the way he said it made me feel really sad for that kid. And that was juxtapositioned against an observation i had that morning on the shuttle to the airport as the shuttle driver talked to each of his children on the phone as they got ready for school and encouraged them in their studies and told them to “work hard” and “be safe” and “stay away from the kids with drugs” and “pappa loves you” etc. What a difference. This song is also a response to first hand work with jouvenile delinquent boys who struggle with drug and alcohol abuse, and to the obvious need in our culture for fathers in our world to rise to the calling of their high role in society. I’m so grateful to our heavenly Father who never gives up on His children, and who gave His Son for us. I wrote this song with someone’s voice like Josh Turner in mind. I recorded this on my laptop at 3 am and let’s just say my voice ain’t gonna sell commercials on CMT! But I hope you like it.
