More than 5,500 moms have taken the fun and quirky parenting style quiz, “Are You a Slacker Mom?” (http://www.areyouaslackermom.com) featured on Chatterbean.com. Of these respondents more than 60 percent answered that their families are ready and willing to lend a helping hand.
“While many people do enjoy the holiday activities during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s, for others the season is marked by an increase in depression, alcohol and substance abuse, suicide and domestic violence,” reports Marc Lallanilla in an ABC News original report.
Family support can greatly decrease the chances of holiday depression and related abuse. About 45 percent of the respondents answered their extended families “live close and are very involved with the family and children,” and another 17 percent answered “we don’t live near them, but they visit often and help when they can.” The “Are You a Slacker Mom?” quiz is one of many pop culture quizzes featured on Chatterbean.com (http://www.areyouaslackermom.com).
Before holiday stress reaches a critical point, experts advise taking proactive steps to minimize anxiety and enjoy the holidays. “Be realistic,” Nadine J. Kaslow, professor and chief psychologist at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, said to ABC News.
Many moms still face stressful times during the holiday season. Twenty-four percent of the respondents answered that their families “will sometimes visit or help, but only if we ask.” The remaining 14 percent answered “they aren’t a part of the picture.” Chatterbean.com offers a few ideas for stressed out moms during the holiday season:
