Emotional blackmail? – my ex says he’s depressed and using drugs now that I’ve started moving on?
Question by bon bon love time: Emotional blackmail? – my ex says he’s depressed and using drugs now that I’ve started moving on?
We broke up about a month ago, it was messy and I haven’t been returning his phone calls or text messages until today when I agreed to speak to him because he seemed really emotional. Anyway to make a long story short, he told me he doesn’t have anyone in his life he can talk to except me, he’s been depressed, and the past month he’s tried meth a “couple times”. At first he said it was twice, then he admitted it was more like 3 or 4 times (how would you not remember how many times exactly you’ve done meth??)
He’s had problems with addiction in the past when we were together (alcohol). Now I feel sucked back into his life and the drama as I was moving on. I feel guilty but part of me is doubting the meth thing he told me. Don’t you get hooked on meth really fast? It seems hard to believe he’s just tried it a couple times. I don’t know if he’s saying this for sympathy to get back into my life, he talked about how good it was to see me, how much he’s missed me, and so on. I feel really concerned about him, but he’s had a lot of trouble telling the truth when we were together so I’m in a tricky situation where I feel like I should be there for him but at the same time I doubt him and am scared he’s trying to use me (he was not good for me when we were together). What do you think I should do..?
btw, I’m not asking if I should get back together with him in a romantic way because that’s out of the question. I’m asking if I should be there as a friend…but even that is hard as he is very emotionally draining, and I still have all sorts of issues I’m trying to work through w/ my failed relationship with him.
