well, meth is locally common, but I suppose it could be something else.

This is an anonymous board. you could be anyone including a kid who found a bag of something and is thinking about using it. right? I can’t look in your eyes from here and tell whether or not I believe you. So I asked a question for a number of reasons

1) To help me decide if I actually believed you are a concerned relative and not someone making a buy or using. Parents would be concerned enough to tell everything they could. Kids would say “what does it matter?”

2) because there is information in your head that could help to make a guess at what it this substance is. again. appearance, odor, color, quantity, etc.

3) to understand why you think it’s meth. A concerned parent isn’t necessarily going to jump to the OMG this is methamphetamine conclusion. There must be a reason you guessed that.

4) to understand what else you found with this substance. a pipe? needle? etc.

5) there are several homes tests for methamphetamines. without looking up the details, I couldn’t tell you what other drugs might interfere with the test.
